HELM Kotor Summer School
On Monday, 29 June 2026, at the Blue Economy Training Centre of the Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro, participants started Thematic Module 1: Sustainable Development of Nautical and Cruising Tourism.
The day brought together three excellent lectures connecting cruise tourism, global market trends, coastal and maritime tourism, aquaculture, sustainability and the Blue Economy:
⚓ Dr Tena Božović, Port of Kotor, introduced the foundations of nautical and cruising tourism, including the cruise industry, destination development, market trends and sustainability challenges.
🌍 Dr Ilija Moric, Faculty for Tourism and Hospitality, University of Montenegro, presented global characteristics of offer and demand in nautical and cruising tourism, with focus on technology, market development, remote destinations, climate change, safety and the future of coastal and marine tourism.
🌱 Dr Milica Mandić, Institute of Marine Biology, University of Montenegro, explored the connection between coastal and maritime tourism in the context of the Blue Economy, including environmental pressures, sustainable tourism strategies, aquaculture, mariculture and local development opportunities.
This is exactly why practical, cross-border education matters.
The future of the South Adriatic Blue Economy depends on professionals who understand tourism, maritime operations, environmental protection, innovation and local communities as one connected system.
Many thanks to our lecturers, colleagues, partners and participants from Montenegro, Albania and Italy for contributing to an inspiring start of the programme.
